This page is still a work in progress!
Rather than a strict list of resources, this page is more like a collection of the art stuff I currently use and have used during my art journey. Expect more introspection and less "this is what I use and that's about it".
Disclaimer: all this is not only my opinion, but a very uninformed one at that. I mainly do illustration work and have no experience in other artforms, such as animation or comic work.
Programs
Any program used to draw in, both browser-based and executable. While currently I stick to Krita, I have thoughts about all the programs I have used before.
Krita
Krita has all the good shit about FOSS, it's beautiful...
Nothing else to say.
Clip Studio Pain(t)
I have used Clip Studio Paint PRO 2.0 as my main art program from 2023 to 2025, approximately 2 years. Before that I used SAI, I had to switch since my license got lost to time inside some old email and I couldn't download it on my new laptop and i don't recommend you use SAI anymore since it's kind of outdated compared to more recent/better art programs like CSP or Krita
See how I specified the version of CSP I own? CSP can be such a steal when you get it on sale but mayor updates are locked behind further payment. Which is really fucking annoying.
I'm just going to list the pros and cons because I could go on about how CSP's fails mainly come from it being corporate software and that's kinda obvious:
Pros
- The assets store: It's the selling point of CSP, a Shangri-La of stuff you download and never use again (but if you do, it's super useful).
- Easy to comprehend UI: The difficulty curve is similar to SAI's. Highly customizable as well
- 3D models: Tthis one is also a really good selling point lol. I didn't use them very often but it's such a good resource to have, even more when it's embedded on the program itself.
- Easy to use text/transform tools: Krita's leave a lot to desire compared to CSP's. I got used to it already but I can't help but miss them.....
Cons
- The whole 'you have to pay for future updates thing': I don't think I need to explain this.
- Subscription-only in mobile devices: While I have never used CSP in a phone or tablet, CSP's Android/IOS version is not a one-time purchase like in Windows/Mac.
- Lack of Linux version: yeah.
- Features locked behind EX version: This never affected me much since most of those features are animation-related. But if anyone plans to use CSP as an animation tool, they have to pay extra.
